Offenburg, 19 May 2026 – With around 8,600 trade visitors and 302 exhibiting companies from all over the world, GeoTHERM Expo & Congress 2026 impressively underlined its position as the world’s leading trade fair and congress for geothermal energy. GeoTHERM will once again provide a central platform for innovation, knowledge transfer and networking within the geothermal industry in 2027. Furthermore, the event, which takes place on 25 and 26 February 2027 in Offenburg, will celebrate its 20th anniversary next year.
Call for Papers now open
The scientific congress of GeoTHERM 2027 will accompany the trade fair with presentations on current developments in deep geothermal energy and shallow geothermal energy. The call for papers for these exciting topics, as well as for the focus theme of the 2027 event, is now open.
Conference topics
The GeoTHERM scientific conference covers the entire spectrum of geothermal energy and is seeking papers on the following topics:
Deep geothermal energy
We welcome contributions from research, development and practice relating to the utilisation of deep geothermal resources. These include technical, scientific, economic and regulatory issues across the entire project chain – from exploration and development through to operation, storage and heat utilisation.
Shallow geothermal energy
We are seeking submissions on current developments, applications and experiences in the field of shallow geothermal energy. Topics relating to planning, technology, operation, innovation and monitoring, as well as practical applications in buildings, neighbourhoods and municipal supply concepts, are particularly welcome.
Key theme for GeoTHERM 2027: Sector coupling and synergies with oil, gas and mining
GeoTHERM 2027 will place a particular focus on sector coupling, as well as on the interfaces and synergies between geothermal energy and the oil & gas, mining and subsurface utilisation sectors.
The GeoTHERM Congress is seeking contributions on technologies, infrastructure, knowledge transfer and transformation strategies that harness the existing
expertise and resources of these industries for geothermal applications.
Submissions may include, amongst other things, practical examples, research papers, innovative concepts and case studies from national and international projects.
Interdisciplinary contributions, as well as innovative approaches and research findings from fields adjacent to geothermal energy, are also expressly welcome.
Topics can be submitted online via the GeoTHERM Journal platform. Proposals may be for presentations or scientific posters in German or English. A requirement is
an extended abstract of no more than three A4 pages, stating the title, the presenter, the language of the presentation and the topic area.
Further information and a direct link to the submission form can be found at: https://geotherm-journal.com/index.php/gtj/about/submissions
Papers for the GeoTHERM Congress may be submitted until 31 August 2026.
Submissions will be selected by the Scientific Advisory Board using a double-blind review process.
Unfortunately, purely product- or company-based presentations without technical or scientific merit cannot be considered.
